Xiaomi has launched a kids GPS smartwatch named Mi Bunny, not quite the smartwatch we were waiting for. The children's wearable, also referred to as the Mitu Watch, has popped on a number of dedicated Xiaomi sites, both Chinese and international, and is now on sale for $59/299 yuan.
The features list is pretty similar to what we've seen in kids smartwatches from the hereO and Dokiwatch but, as ever, Xiaomi is selling this thing cheap.
In terms of tracking, it supports both GPS and GLONASS, with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, an SOS button (including position and seven seconds of audio) plus alerts when the child moves outside a custom security zone.
The plastic Mi Bunny watch comes with silicone straps in blue or pink and is very light at just 37g. It's compatible with Android phones running Android 4.2 and higher and handles voice calls, at least in China where the device appears to come with a SIM card prepaid with 10 yuan.
The watch face is actually a simple LED dot matrix which displays the time, emojis or if one of six preset contacts is calling. As such it's not a surprise that the 300mAh battery has a standby time of six days, according to Xiaomi.
The Mi Bunny launch comes just ahead of a 10 May event in which we're expecting to see a Xiaomi Mi Band 2 with an LCD display, pictures of which have already leaked. We have been in touch with Xiaomi for more information on Mi Bunny and we'll update this story when we have it.
